LG Display said on Tuesday that is has developed large-sized oxide thin-film transistors (TFT) for digital X-ray detectors (DXD).
It is the display panel maker’s first foray into medical X-ray market.
TFT in DXD is used to convert the X-ray images into digital files to send to PCs. It is a core component in the detectors, LG Display said.
The company’s oxide TFT boasts 100 times faster electron movement and tenth the noise of existing a-Si (amorphous silicon) TFTs, allowing for the taking of high resolution images and filming of high speed videos, it said. The new TFT can be used for surgeries, LG Display said.
The company used IGZO (indium gallium zinc oxide) for the transistor.
LG Display has supplied the new TFT to local diagnosis imaging solution firm Drtech. It has signed contracts with global companies as well, it said.
The new TFT can also be used in portable X-ray devices used outdoors, such as in COVID-19 screening stations. LG claimed the TFT reduces radiation exposure by over 50% as well.
