Nextchip said on Monday that it has started development of advanced driver assistance system SoC Apache 6.

Prototype of the chip will be released in the second half of 2022, the company said.

Apache 6 is the successor to Apache 5, which has neural processing unit (NPU) applied.

The new chip will have strengthened valet parking and ADAS capabilities, Nextchip, a subsidiary of fabless firm NC&, said.

It will also have various IP in CPU, GPU and NPU applied to it for stronger processing power, the South Korean company said.

Apache 6 will also used Arm’s automotive IP __ Coretex A62 AE Core CPU and i-G78 AE GPU.

The new chip will also support the ISO26262 standard for automobiles. It will quality for ASIL-B at the least, Nextchip said.

It will use multi-camera input, deep learning-based object recognition, segmentation and VSLAM to recognize where the car is and set traveling courses.

Apache 6 will be made by Samsung Foundry using the 14-nanometer process. Gaon Chips will handle design.

Meanwhile, Nextchip said Apache 4 has secured a tier-1 Japanese customer and will go into mass production soon. Apache 5’s prototype was released late last year. Apache 4 is 28nm and Apache 5 14nm.
