Move done to manage relationship with SK Hynix
Mecaro president Lee Jong-soo will be joining Jusung Engineering around the end of the month, TheElec has learned.
Lee will become president of Jusung’s semiconductor business, replacing Roh Jae-sung.
He was previously an executive at South Korean chip giant SK Hynix.
Jusung chairman Hwang Chul-joo is behind Lee’s hiring, people familiar with the matter said.
He is being hired for Jusung to stregthen its semiconductor business, which is showing rapid growth, and for the company’s relationship with SK Hynix, its biggest customer, they said.
Lee earned his Master’s at KwangWoon University’s department of electronics material.
He was a vice president at SK Hynix overseeing the foundry business group. He was also the CEO at Siliconfile, a subsidiary of SK Hynix.
He moved to Mecaro in 2018 and oversaw the company’s advanced material business.
Out of Jusung’s sales during the first half of 2021, around 83% came from its semiconductor business.
The business recorded 122.7 billion won in sales during the time period, a jump from 72.4 billion won in made in sales from the previous year.
Jusung had 140.7 billion won worth of remaining orders as of the first half of the year.
The company also recently became the sole supplier of atomic layer deposition equipment to SK Hynix for DRAM production, winning the deal over its rival Wonik IPS.
The company won two orders from SK Hynix last month, one worth 12.1 billion won and another worth 14.5 billion won.
Roh’s departure also came as a surprise. He joined Jusung in October 2017 after working at LG Electron and SK Hynix.
It is unknown the exact reason for his departure.
A Jusung Engineering spokesperson declined to comment on the matter.
