A prestigious display industry show to take place in August will likely be canceled.

The 20th International Meeting on Information Display, or IMID 2020, that was scheduled to take place from August 26 to 28 will likely be canceled as companies are minimizing employee activities in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, TheElec confirmed Thursday.

Korea Display Industry Association (KDIA), the event’s co-organizer, will hold a board meeting on June 12 to decide whether they will proceed with the show, those with direct knowledge of the matter said.

Most members believe it will be difficult to proceed with the show and there was little chance now that the show will go on, they said.

Postponing the event is also difficult as COEX, IMID 2020’s venue, is already fully booked after August.

This year’s event was originally planned as a joint event for KDIA, the Korean Information Display Society (KIDS) as well as the Society for Information Display (SID).

In January, KIDS chairman, Samsung Display CEO Lee Dong-hoon, has stressed that the association and society must work together for a successful event.

Previously, KDIA and KIDS hosted two separate events.

Meanwhile SID Display Week 2020, which was originally to take place in June, has been postponed to August. People familiar with the matter said the postponement made organizers of IMID 2020 feel underappreciated as the two events taking place in the same month will decrease interest of IMID.

SID Display Week will take place from August 3 to 7 at San Jose McEnery Convention Center in California.
