Samsung and LG have withdrawn their complaints filed to the South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) as of Friday, which stemmed from their squabbles over their respective TV advertisements last year.

The FTC said it will no longer proceed with the case as both parties have withdrawn. LG withdrew on Wednesday and Samsung on Thursday.

LG filed the complaint first last year in September, claiming that Samsung’s advertisement for its QLED TV was misleading consumers into thinking that the products were based on self-emissive technology.

QLED TV uses Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) which requires a backlight, but adds a quantum dot film.

Afterwards, Samsung filed its own complaint in October over LG’s advertisements that took shots at QLED TVs.

In a statement Friday, LG said since its filing last year, Samsung has admitted on its homepages and YouTube channels that QLED TV was an LCD TV that uses a LED backlight. It no longer saw the point of proceeding with the complaint.

Meanwhile, Samsung said LG has stopped its “negative advertisements” since its filing to the FTC and therefore withdrew the complaint.

Samsung also added that QLED was already an accepted name in various foreign institutions which showed that there was absolutely no problem in using the branding.
