Global Ethernet network equipment market decrease 10.4% in Q1
Switch market dropped 8.9% year on year, IDC says
Worldwide Ethernet network equipment market decreased 10.4% year on year in the first quarter to US$10.49 billion, according to research firm IDC.
Ethernet switch market declined 8.9% to US$6.16 billion.
Market leader Cisco saw revenue drop 12% but controlled market share of 51.9%.
Runner-up Huawei saw revenue decline 14% and had a market share of 8.4%.
Arista Networks, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Juniper each controlled 6.7%, 6.2% and 3.3% of market share, respectively, in the first quarter.
Arista saw revenue decline 18.7% year on year while HPE and Juniper saw theirs rise 6.7% and 14.1%, respectively.
In South Korea, most government projects were still preferring using foreign-made Eternet switches, a person familiar with the matter said. Telcos, however, are using more domestically made goods.
Korean vendors Dasan Networks and Ubiquoss produce switches.
According to IDC, the router market revenue also dropped 16.4% year on year to US$2.99 billion.
Market leader Cisco saw revenue decline 28.1% and had a market share of 36.3% in the first quarter. Second-place Huawei saw revenue drop 2.1% and secured a market share of 28.8%.
Huawei was threatening Cisco in wireless data processing, a person familiar with the matter said. It was mostly a US-led market before the Chinese company’s push, they said.
Worldwide wireless LAN, including access points, revenue dropped 2.2% year on year, IDC also said.
