Coweaver has successfully applied Post Quantum Cryptography (PQS) on its Re-configurable Optical Add-Drop Multiplexer (ROADM).

The optical transmission system maker is supplying the equipment to South Korean telco LG Uplus, which will likely use it for its enterprise network, the companies said.

PQS is a software algorithm designed to make quantum computing more accessible.

The one applied on Coweaver’s ROADM was developed by Seoul National University’s Crypto Lab.

LG Uplus said it will also apply the technology to its consumer network at a later date.

Quantum computers perform calculations based on the probability of an object's state before it is measured instead of just 1s or 0s used in current bit computing. The hope is it will perform these calculations faster.
