Samsung boss in relay meeting
It comes 6 days after his arrest warrant was rejected by court
Samsung’s de facto leader has held relay meetings with key executives of its smartphone and semiconductor operations, Samsung Electronics said on Monday.
Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong met with Kim Ki-nam, CEO and vice chairman of Samsung Device Solutions (DS), Jin Gyo-young, president of Samsung’s memory business, ES Jung, president of Samsung Foundry, In-yup Kang, President of Samsung System LSI and HK Park, CFO of Samsung DS, and discussed investment strategy going forward and the current state of the global semiconductor industry.
Lee also discussed road map for 5-nanometer and gate-all-around processes for its foundry, or contract chip-making, business and the impact of the US-China trade war, Samsung said.
After his meetings with semiconductor executives, the vice chairman met with those of Samsung’s smartphone operation. Lee met with Roh Tae-moon, president of Samsung Mobile, Samsung Mobile CFO Yunho Choi, Choi Kyung-sik, senior vice president at Samsung Mobile marketing, Kyung-jun Kim, head of development, and Kim Sung-jin, director of support team, Samsung said.
They discussed earnings for the first half of the year and strategy to expand sales in the second half of the year. They also discussed next year’s flagship smartphone line-up, Samsung said.
This is first known instance of Lee finishing all key meetings within a day. The vice chairman, in his visit to Samsung’s Xi’an semiconductor plant last month, said “there was no time” and the conglomerate must prepare for big changes to find new growth engine going forward.
Lee is facing fresh trails for allegedly violating local capital markets law. An arrest warrant for him filed by prosecutors last week was rejected in court.
