Ex-Samsung exec quits from Chinese firm: Report
It is due to the controversy over potential tech leaks
An ex-Samsung president will resign from his post at a Chinese tech firm due to the controversy surrounding the move, according to South Korea media Chosun Ilbo.
Chang Won-ki, ex-president at Samsung China, drew South Korean media attention from his move to Chinese display driver IC maker Beijing Eswin Computing Technology, where he was named vice chairman.
It raised fears of potential of technology leaks, which Chang strongly denied.
But the ex-Samsung executive quit in response to the controversy, the report said, and filed his resignation to Eswin. He reportedly told those close to him that he didn’t want any unnecessary misunderstandings and also didn’t want to hurt Samsung or his successors, Chosun Ilbo said.
Chang joined Samsung Electronics in 1981. He started his career there in the semiconductor business then later headed its LCD operations. He became head of Samsung China in 2011 and remained in that post until 2017 after in which he left the company.
He said he joined Eswin early this year out of friendship with Eswin founder Wang Dongsheng, who previously served as chairman of Chinese display giant BOE.
