Samsung rolls out blood pressure measuring app in South Korea
ECG feature will also launch in Q3
Samsung Electronics has rolled out its health monitoring app that can measure users’ blood pressures in South Korea on Thursday.
Galaxy Watch Active2 users can download Samsung Health Monitor via Galaxy Store, calibrate it with a traditional cuff, and begin monitoring their blood pressures, the South Korean tech giant said.
They can tap their watches for measurements and the Galaxy Watch Active2’s wrist sensors will perform pulse analysis. The app then analyzes the relationship between the calibration value and the blood pressure change to determine the blood pressure
The results can be synced to the Samsung Health Monitor app on their Galaxy smartphones. The data can be shared with doctors for review and consultation, Samsung said.
The feature will be available for Galaxy smartphones with Android 7.0 or above and future watches that has the wrist sensors.
Samsung Health Monitor was approved for use by South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in April.
Meanwhile, an electrocardiogram (ECG) tracking feature will be added to the Samsung Health Monitor app within the third quarter of this year.
The ECG tracking feature was approved the country’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in May. It allows the app to measure and analyse the heart rhythms of those wearing the watch, as well as search for any irregularities indicating atrial fibrillation.
