KT has developed a 5G network slicing service aimed at business clients, the company said on Tuesday.

The telco has wrapped up the technological development and verification for the service, it said.

It will allow physical 5G networks to be separated into multiple virtual ones. It will be applied to core networks and allow business clients to optimize their networks to their specific requirements.

For example, customers will be able to slice their networks to those for smartphones and another for their wireless CCTVs. The CCTVs will be able to film and transfer videos uninterrupted by the traffic from smartphones this way.

Network coverage can also be specified. Employee smartphones can be set to be access the network anywhere, while Internet of Things devices used to manage production infrastructure at factories can be set to have only network access near the factory for security reasons, KT said.

The service will help in applications such as smart factory, smart city, logistics, distribution, emergency networks and public safety, the telco added.
