SK Telecom, HPE partner-up for MEC export

South Korea’s SK Telecom and US’s HPE has formed a mobile edge computing (MEC) consortium to sell related technology to global telcos, the companies announced.

SK Telecom will handle the MEC software while HPE will oversee the hardware as well as infrastructure, local sales and maintenance.

The consortium is in talks with telcos in Malaysia and Thailand to supply the MEC total package, the companies said.

SK Telecom said it will later export the goods to carriers in North America and Europe as well.

The South Korean telco said it will lead in innovation in areas such as media, security, gaming and healthcare to foster the 5G ecosystem going forward.
