Memory semiconductor sales will grow substantially this year, especially the non-volatile NAND Flash memory, according to IC Insights.

NAND Flash sales will grow 27% this year compared to a year prior to be worth US$56 billion, the research firm said. IC Insights earlier in January estimated that NAND Flash market will grow 19% this year.

DRAM will grow 3.2% while CPU will grow 2.2%, IC Insights said. Meanwhile, mobile application processor sales will contract 3% this year year over year.

DRAM market will be worth US$64.5 billion this year, accounting for 18% of the total semiconductor sales in 2020. IC Insights said COVID-19 has caused PC shipment to increase to support online businesses and education. Shipment of DRAM will reach 18.56 billion units this year, a growth of 8% compared to 2019.

The CPU market will be worth US$41.6 billion. COVID-19 has caused demand from servers and data centers to increase.

Application processor will contract due to lowered sales of smartphones. However, sales will recover in the second half thanks to 5G smartphones, IC Insights said.
