Huawei has beat Samsung Electronics in quarterly smartphone shipment for the first time in the second quarter, according to Canalys and CounterPoint.

Earlier, CounterPoint noted that the Chinese tech giant beat its South Korean rival for shipment in the month of April.

The research firm said total shipment for smartphones in second quarter stood at 271.4 million units, 24% less than the 357 million units moved a year prior.

Huawei and Samsung moved 54.8 million units and 54.2 million units, respectively, a decline of 3% and 29% each.

According Canalys, total shipment for the second quarter stood at 284.7 million units, a decline of 14% compared to last year’s 331.8 million units.

Huawei shipped 55.8 million units in the quarter, a decline of 5% year over year, while Samsung moved 53.7 million units, a drop of 30%.
