KT has opened a data center in Uzbekistan’s capital Tashkent to monitor electricity use, the company said.

The data center will collect data from 8 million smart meters that will be installed nationwide, the telco said.

KT will provide support in managing the data center for the next two years.

The central AMI system will allow Uzbekistan to apply various utility payment systems, the telco said.

Previous meter reading has been done by people and the new system will increase efficiency and precision of measuring electricity use and bills, KT said.
