South Korean carrier KT has been chosen to lead South Korea’s free public Wi-Fi project, the carrier and the Ministry of Science and ICT said.

The company will install 10,000 Wi-Fi 6 (802.11az) based access points within the year.

Around 18 billion won has been earmarked for the project.

In total, KT will install 41,000 new access points by 2022.

Wi-Fi access points of around 18,000 installed before 2014 will also be swapped to the newer Wi-Fi 6 ones, the carrier said.
