Samsung Electronics will apply its S Pen stylus to the Galaxy S21 smartphone series launching next year, TheElec has confirmed.

It will mark the first time for an S series smartphone to have the stylus.

The S Pen stylus has been the distinguishing point for the Galaxy Note series. Samsung is yet to decide whether it would launch a Galaxy Note21, which will be the successor of the recently launch Galaxy Note20 series.

The code name for the S21 series is ‘Unbound.’ There will be three models in the series __ their current project names are M1, N2 and O3.

O3 will be the highest tier among the three and this model will have the S Pen, people familiar with the matter said.

Samsung’s code name for the S20 series that launched earlier this year was ‘Hubble.’ The project name for the standard S20 was X1, S20 Plus was Y2 and S20 Ultra was called Z3.

As reported by TheElec earlier, the Galaxy S21 series will not have 3D ToF(Time of Flight) modules.

Samsung will start production for the components of the S21 series in the fourth quarter, so it is highly unlikely that there will be any specification changes from now on.

The South Korean company is yet to decide whether it would launch the Galaxy Note21 as it is planning to put in the S Pen on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which will launch sometime during the second half of 2021.

Samsung is also yet to get a firm grasp on how many units of Galaxy Z Fold 3 it will sell.

The Galaxy Note series have sold around 10 million units by the end of every year __ but shipment for the Fold series currently falls behind this.

Samsung sold a million units of Galaxy Fold, the first model in the Fold series, as of the first quarter this year, after the phone went on sale in September, 2020.

The South Korean company is also yet to ramp up the production of ultra this glass __ which are used as cover windows in its foldable smartphones. Samsung can currently produce around 600,000 to 700,000 units of glass per month right now and they are trying to increase this to a million units per month by the end of the year.

Another concern for Samsung right now in dropping the Note series and pushing the Fold 3 is market share.

The Fold 3 will be more pricier than the Note21 so it may even out in terms of revenue share but shipment share will be undoubtedly hurt.

Samsung is keen to track the shipment for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 __ how well it performs in the market will ultimately decide which course the company takes.

There has been little differentiating factor between the S series and the Note series minus the stylus.

The Galaxy S20 Ultra and the Galaxy Note20 Ultra share the same screen size of 6.9-inch.
