KEC to supply digital cockpit chips to Tesla

KEC has clinched a supply deal with Tesla to provide them with LV MOSFET TVS used in digital cockpits, the company said on Tuesday.

Supply for the chips will begin in 2021.

They will be used for over-voltage protection and over-current protection on touch screen liquid crystal display (LCD) panels on Tesla’s cars.

High reliability is required car components as safety is paramount. KEC said it has passed the strict requirements posed by Tesla for the deal.

Tesla plans to produce over 5 million cars a year by 2025. It is building its third factory in Germany, which is expected to be completed on 2021.

KEC will expand sales of power management chips aimed at automobiles going forward, the company said.
