LBLusem to lead national miniLED project

Driver IC maker LBLusem will lead a national project to develop a miniLED module, the company said on Thursday.

The company will receive 18.4 billion won in funding from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy up to December 2024 to make miniLED display that use local materials and light sources.

Binder materials to be used in the display will be made by another company that will use core technology provided by Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI).

The light source, which will be the miniLED chip, will be made by a local research institute and a manufacturer. The chip will be sized 125 micrometers horizontally and 80 micrometers vertically. Package for the chips will developed as well. 

Electronic Display Industrial Research Association of Korea will provide support to from a value chain around the miniLED by providing strategy guidance and standardization related to miniLED.

LBLusem posted 17.5 billion won in operating profits and 169.6 billion won in sales last year.
