Qualcomm launches Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G
Aimed at notebook PCs
Qualcomm announced on Thursday at the IFA tradeshow its second generation Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform aimed at notebook PCs.
The US chip giant touted the ARM architecture based processors’ low power, 5G connectivity and artificial intelligence (AI) performances.
The chip will allow notebook PCs to be used for days without an external power cable and support both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G spectrums.
Qualcomm said the chip has upgraded AI, audio and camera features that will help remote work and study. It has Qualcomm’s AI eye contact and expressive avatar that will help virtual conferences.
It also has Qualcomm acoustics's echo cancellation and noise suppression technology that provides clear sounds, the company said. The ISP on the processor supports up 4K HDR and 32MP pixel cameras.
It also supports Wi-Fi 6 and has a single type C cable dock that supports dual 4K displays. It also supports Microsoft’s Secure Core PC and Windows Hypervisors.
Notebooks with the Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform will launch near end of the year.
