China the largest buyer of smartphone OLED in Q2

China was the largest buyer of smartphone OLED panels in the second quarter of 2020, UBI Research said.

China bought 52.5% of the total volume for the quarter, followed by South Korea’s 35% and US’s 8.3%.

Chinese companies purchased a total of 30.4 million units of smartphone OLED panels.

Samsung Electronics has always been the No.1 in the past and this marks the first time that Chinese companies combined bought more for a quarter, UBI Research said.

Out of the Chinese companies, Huawei bought the most with 53.4%. This was followed by Oppo’s 18.6%, Vivo’s 14.8% and Xiaomi’s 8.3%.

Chinese OLED panels maker will continue to increase their production volume going forward, the research firm added.
