LG Uplus verifies iUICC tech on network

LG Uplus is planning to commercialize SIM integrated telecommunication module for use in Internet of Things (IoT) network, the company said.

The module will be applied for devices based on NB-IoT and LTE-Cat.M1 networks for use in remote inspection and location tracking, the carrier said.

LG Uplus said it has verified its Integrated UICC (iUICC) technology on its commercial network.

Smartphones use Universal SIM that are note integrated to the modules.

Ntmore used Sony Semiconductor Israel’s telecom chips for the iUICC modules that it will supply to LG Uplus. It uses German SIM software company G&D’s OS.

LG Uplus collaborated with G&D from the start for the modules, it said. 

The module will lead to smaller and lighter IoT devices, the carrier said. Devices with the module will no longer require space or components for SIM.

This will also lead to low purchasing and rental costs for IoT devices. Durability of IoT devices will also increase as there is no sockets that can be susceptible to outside environments.

LG Uplus will launch a new IoT device lineup that uses its iUICC and use its NB-IoT and 5G networks to provide the best services for customers.
