Samsung launches new 0.7μm image sensors

They will reduce camera protrusions in phones

Samsung Electronics has launched four new image sensors with 0.7 micrometer (μm) size pixels on Tuesday.

They will be 15% models that previous models with the same pixel count which will reduce protrusions in smartphone cameras.

The four sensors are: 108MP Isocell HM2, 64MP Isocell GW3 that comes with 4K 60 frame per second filming capability, 48MP Isocell GM5 that supports ultrawide and folded zoom as well as 32MP Isocell JD1 that is ultra-small for bezel-less smartphones.

Samsung said it improved the optical structures of pixels for the sensors __ a technology called Isocell Plus by the firm.

This reduces the loss of light and interruption between pixels, Samsung said.

The sensors also have smart-ISO that reduces noise. 

Starting in the fourth quarter, the company will apply new technologies such as Isocell 2.0 and staggered HDR on the sensors, it said. Isocell 2.0 will increase sensitivity of sensors by 12%. 

Isocell HM2, GW3 and JD1 has gone into production. Samples of GM5 are being supplied to clients.
