Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) and Seoul National University will collaborate on complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology for artificial intelligence (AI) application, the pair said Wednesday.

CMOS is used for integrated circuits on memory chips and microprocessors.

They are low-power and used for micro computers such as mobile electronic devices.

The two will also share their semiconductor equipment for the co-research. This will allow them to react to situations faster, ETRI and the university said.

In April, ETRI succeeded in developing the low-power AB9 AI semiconductor. The chip uses 15W for 40TF, 40 trillion simple calculations. The institute plans to develop a pet-a-flops (PFLOP) AI processor.

The collaboration between the two will accelerate research in AI chips, ETRI said.
