Samsung Display claims QD display plan is on schedule
Despite concerns over whether Samsung Electronics would use them
Samsung Display has stressed that its plan to produce QD (quantum dot) display panels next year was on schedule at an industry meeting on Wednesday.
The company took part in the 27th business reorganization planning review meeting held at the Korea Institute for Advanced Technology (KITA) building Seoul.
A Samsung Display official said co-growth was discussed at the meeting. They said that the company’s plans on QD display were on schedule.
The South Korean display panel maker has previously said it will exit its liquid crystal display (LCD) business and transfer to QD displays.
However, there are concerns over QD display’s future as Samsung Electronics is showing low interest int QD-OLED, the first iteration of QD displays, people familiar with the matter said.
COVID-19 pandemic has dented TV demands but its had began to recover in the second half of 2020, with LCD panel prices rising. Some believe Samsung Display should continue its LCD business longer. LCD panels increased in the third quarter and is expected to continue to rise throughout the fourth quarter.
The Samsung Display official declined to comment on its LCD business.
The company in July held a ceremony for installing QD display equipment to its Asan factory. It sold its LCD factory in Suzhou, China to CSOT last month.
