Seoul Semiconductor will launch LED aimed at automobiles that consumes 20% less power and has 40% increased heat resistance called WICOP UHL (ultra high luminance) next year, the company said on Thursday.
WICOP is a surface mount technology that allows LEDs to be attached without a module.
WICOP UHL will be able to reduce heat resistance structure by 75% on car headlamps, Seoul Semiconductor said. Light emitting surface can be 0.5 millimeter-square thin, the company said.
Having a thinner light emitting surface usually reduces heat resistance capabilities but the company overcame this weakness, a Seoul Semiconductor spokesperson said.
It can be applied to all automobiles including electric vehicles, they added.
