Samsung Network "focused" on mmWave 5G

Commercializing mmWave 5G network, which is the true 5G, was a big focus of Samsung Electronics’ network business, a company executive said.
Woojune Kim, executive vice president at Samsung Network, was speaking at Qualcomm 5G Summit 2020.
Samsung showed a great deal of potential of mmWave 5G, Kim said, and has achieved 8Gbps speed by applying the technology on its fixed wireless access equipment.
Fixed wireless access kits are used for internet access at homes, not smartphones. Samsung supplied the equipment to Verizon back in January 2018. The kits are used with customer premises equipment to use internet wireless at home.
Kim also touted the company’s 5G small cell called Link Cell, which is made using Qualcomm chipsets. It will be used in both consumer and business sectors, the executive said.
Meanwhile, in South Korea, SK Telecom and the Ministry of Science and ICT has said it doesn’t plan to offer mmWave 5G networks to all citizens. SK Telecom has claimed both non-standalone and standalone 5G networks were real 5Gs. The carrier said mmWave was more appropriate for business-to-business applications.
Meanwhile, US carrier Verizon was testing small cell kits supplied by Samsung Network and Corning. Corning’s goods were ahead in schedule in testing and being used in filed tests on commercial networks.
