Seoul Viosys has supplied its Violeds sterilization LED for air conditioners to South Korean cafe chain Baekgeumdang, the company said on Thursday.

The company also supplied the LED for use at a public gym at Jongno, Seoul.

Seoul Viosys has been installing the LED at air conditioners in restaurants and public facilities that can house over a hundred people since August.

Violeds shoots ultraviolet light that kills germs and viruses.

As it uses light instead of chemicals for the sterilization, it is harmless to humans, the company stressed. The LED will last over 50,000 hours so there will be no need to swap them until the air conditioners becomes defunct, Seoul Viosys said.

In June, the company began supplying the LED to Chinese air conditioner maker Gree for the latter’s Fresh Air product. Seoul Viosys said the product showed a sterilization rate of 99.15% at China’s state lab.
