SK Innovation’s China factory goes live

SK Innovation said on Tuesday that its subsidiary SK IE Technology has started operation of its battery separator factory in Changzhou, China.

SK IE Technology decided to construct the factory in 2018. Construction began on March, 2019 on the factory with a production capacity of 340 million meter square per year. Construction wrapped up in August and SK commenced a three month trial run of the factory.

SK has now secured a total annual separator production capacity of 870 million meter square __ its other factory in Jeungpyeong, South Korea has a capacity of 530 million meter square.

SK is building more lines at China and Poland. The will began operations sequentially up to 2023. SK is aiming to secure production capacity of 1.37 billion meter square per year by 2021 and 1.87 billion meter square by 2023.

The company is aiming to hold a 30% market share in the global wet separator market. It believes it will control the premium separator market thanks to its ceramic coating separators.
