Telechips have supplied its system-on-a-chip (SoC) for head-up displays (HUD) on all the new models of Hyundai Motor’s Genesis series.

The firm has previous supplied its SoC for budget model cars before but this is its first deal for the premium brand.

Telechips said it supplied its HUD chip Dolphin (TCC897x) for the Gensis SUV that launched in January this year.

It also supplied the chips for Genesis G80 that launched in March. The new Genesis GV70 launching in December will also use Telechip’s chip. All new Gensis models launching next year will use Dolphin.

Telechips beat rival NXP in 2011 to supply application processor for use in in-vehicle infotainment system of low-end Hyundai cars, including brands such as Sonata and Avante.

Telechips recently began supplying for SUV Palisade, which increased its volume.

HUD chips are 30% cheaper than IVI chips. Telechips’ HUD chip supply to Hyundai isn’t expected to help its sales in the short-term. Genesis is also a premium brand with low unit shipment. Hyundai Motor said it sold 74,158 units of Genesis GV80 and G80 between January to October this year. HUD is also an option for cars and not a requirement.

Telechips recently began development of neural processing unit application processor dubbed Neural Dolphin. It is aiming to launch the chip between 2023 to 2024. It also offers the Dolphin 3 for digital cockpit systems.
