A Samsung Electronic VP has said foldable smartphones will become thinner and lighter going forward at the company’s investors forum.

Foldable smartphones was a new momentum for the saturated smartphone market, Lee Jong-min, VP at Samsung Mobile, said.

In June of last year, Lee had said consumers will be able to see various foldable phones in the near future.

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold 2 weighs 282 grams. Galaxy Note20 Ultra weighs 208 grams and Galaxy Note20 192 grams. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip weighs 183 grams.

Lee said its own survey showed 93% of its users found the large screens on its foldable smartphones immersive.

They purchase foldable smartphones for their larger screens, portability and unique design, the VP said.

Samsung’s foldable smartphones that launched this year improved ten things over the Galaxy Fold that launched in 2019, Lee said. These are; a durable utlra-thin glass, dust-proof hinge, larger screen, optimized experience for the larger screen, multi-tasking, hinge design, flex mode view and camera, the rear camera, ecosystem partnership and brand collaboration.

Samsung saw out-door usage time increase for the Galaxy Z Fold 2 compared to its predecessor, Lee said.
