Semicon to license out patents to HC Semitek
Firm to earn royalties for flip chip
Semicon Light will license out its patents related to flip chip to Chinese LED maker HC Semitek.
The South Korean company will began earning royalties within the year.
The Chinese companies have requested for the license in October. It was gain access to around 250 patents.
HC Semitek is China’s second largest LED chip maker. The company formed a joint venture with Semicon Light back in 2016 based in China.
Semicon Light’s silver-free flip chip differs from conventional horizontal LED chips.
The technology flips the LED chip and attaches them to the board without wire bonding. It can be used for ultra-small LED, which will be a key component in mini and microLED display panels.
HC Semitek is planning to supply microLED to LG Electronics for its microLED TVs.
