Samsung Electro-Mechanics exec wins government award

Shim Ik-chan, a senior vice president at Samsung Electro-Mechanics, has won an annual industry award hosted by South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Shim was awarded at the 15th Electronics and IT Day for his contribution to the camera module industry.

He joined Samsung Electro-Mechanics in 1993 and contributed in securing core technology in cameras for mobile and developed new products for the company.

Shim developed a small embedded camera module, auto focus camera module and optical image stabilization actuator. He contributed in making high magnification optical folded zoom module. Shim contributed in localizing the production of lens and actuators to help the South Korean camera module industry, the company said in a statement.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics entered the camera module business in 2002. It is operating factories in China and Vietnam. It is expanding into the automobile industry.
