Samsung ships the most foldable phone in 2020

A total of 2.8 million foldable smartphone was shipped in 2020, according market research firm CounterPoint.

Samsung’s phones accounted for 73% of them, the firm said.

The Korean tech giant had launched the Galaxy Z Flip smartphone early this year and Galaxy Z Fold 2 in September.

Europe accounted for 29% of smartphone shipment, followed by South Korea’s 26%. China accounted for 25% of the shipment.

Huawei launched its second foldable phone the Mate Xs in March.

Samsung was in a highly advantageous position to procure foldable display panels over rivals and will maintain its leadership position in the market for the foreseeable future, CounterPoint said.

Foldable smartphone is expected to reach 17 million units in 2022.
