Tesla’s Model 3 the best selling EV in 2020

In 2020, 3.1 million electric cars were sold in 2020, according to EV Volumes.

The was a 35% increase from 2019 when 2.62 million electric cars were sold.

Electric car sales were slow in the first half of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but subsidies in Europe and China in the second half increased sales, the market research firm said.

Electric cars, including pure electric cars, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel-cell, saw sales increased in European countries, while sales in November tripled compared to a year ago, EV Volumes said.

Sales in Italy, Denmark, Belgium and Germany increased by four to five times, the firm said.

Tesla’s Model 3 was the best selling model in 2020, as it was in 2019. By November 2020, 288,739 units of the model was sold. Renault ZOE and Tesla Model Y were the third and fourth best selling models, respectively, in the same period.

Hyundai’s Kona EV was the fifth best selling model in 2020.

Tesla, in total, sold 499,500 units in 2020. Volkswagen was second place with sales of late-300,000 units.
