LG Display unveils 77-inch OLED panel
Made with new emission material
LG Display unveiled a 77-inch OLED panel at CES 2021 made with new organic light emitting material.
The company said is used a new high efficiency organic material for the panel that increases luminance by 20%.
This will allow the panel to show brighter pictures and will be used in high-end OLED products.
LG Display will also launch 42-inch and 83-inch OLED panels this year. It will also expand the sizes in the 20 to 30-inch range, the company said.
The South Korea display panel maker has previously made 48, 55, 65, 77 and 88-inch OLED panels.
LG Display also talked up the superiority of OLED over liquid crystal display (LCD) panels.
The company said OLED TV panel uses pixel dimming, in which lights of individual pixels are controlled, that allows for indefinite contrast ratio. The panel also offers perfect blacks.
On the other hand, even premium LCD TVs like MiniLED uses local dimming rather than pixel dimming, which limits how much contrast ratio can be improved.
OLED also had low emission rate for blue light as less flickers compared to LCD, the company added.
LG Display will also launch more Cinematic Sound OLED in which the panel emits sounds on its own without speakers.
Last year, 4.5 million OLED TV panels were shipped, the company said, and it is aiming for 7 to 8 million this year.
