Samsung launches 5nm Exynos 2100

Samsung Electronics on Tuesday launched its 5nm processor Exynos 2100.

The chip will power the company’s Galaxy S21 smartphones, which will be unveiled on January 14.

Exynos 2100 integrates the CPU, GPU and 5G modem chip.

Samsung said the chip consumes 20% less power compared to chips made in the 7nm process. It also uses around 50% less power for artificial intelligence (AI) application compared to 7nm.

The chip uses ARM coresl it uses one Cortex-X1 and three Cortex-A78 as well as four Cortex-A55. This is called a tri-cluster structure, Samsung said.

CPU performance is 30% higher than Exynos 990, the company said.

It uses Mali-G78 as the GPU is which has 40% increased performance compared to predecessors.

Exynos 2100 also has three neural processing units. These comes with an acceleration process that ignores unnecessary calculations. It boasts 26TOPS.

The chip’s 5G modem supports sub-6GHz and mmWave.

The image signal processor can process up to 200 million pixel images. Up to six image sensors can be connected to Exynos 2100; up to four can run simultaneously.

Exynos 2100 supports 4K UHG 120fps in encoding and 8K 60fps in decoding.

It also comes with advanced multi-IP governor that reduces battery’s power consumption for high resolution and specification games and programs.
