TCL showoff MiniLED and rollable displays at CES 2021

Chinese TV maker TCL showed off its new MiniLED TV called OD Zero at CES 2021.

The TV has thousands of local dimming zone and has 50% thinner backlight, TCL claimed.

It also improves contrast ratio compared to predecessors and minimizes optical crosstalk, the company said.

TCL also announced a partnership with Google TV to offer more contents.

The company was the first to unveil a MiniLED TV, displayed at IFA 2019. It commercially launched a MiniLED TV in 2019. In 2020, it launched its Vidrian brand of MiniLED TV.

TCL will launch QLED 4K C725, 4K Mini LED C825 and 4K HDR P725 TVs in 2021.

The company, citing data from Omdia, said it shipped 17.32 million units in 2020 up to the third quarter, a rise of 14.4% from the same time period a year ago.

Sales in North America increased 25% in the same time period and 100% in Europe, TCL said.

The Chinese tech firm also showed off a 6.7-inch AMOLED rollable display at the tradeshow. The display can be expanded to 7.8-inch by tapping the panel.

TCL also unveiled a 17-inch printed, or roll-up, OLED display that it sales has 100% color gamut. The display can be used in printed TV as well as curved, folded and transparent display.

The company also unveiled five new smartphones in its TCL 20 series.

The 6.67-inch TCL 20 5G will cost 299 euros and begin sales this month, it said.
