Samsung and SK takes 2nd and 3rd place in 2020 semiconductor sales 

South Korean firms Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix has ranked second and third place, respectively, in worldwide semiconductor sales in 2020, according market research firm Gartner.

Samsung marked US$56.197 billion in semiconductor sales, a rise of 7.7% from 2019. The company had a market share of 12.5%.

SK Hynix posted US$25.3 billion in sales, a rise of 13.3%. The company had a market share of 5.6%, a rise of 0.3%.

Intel topped the rankings with sales of US$70.244 billion, a rise of 3.7%. The company had a market share of 15.6%, down 0.6% from a year ago.

Micron ranked fourth place with sales of US$22.1 billion, a rise of 9.1%. 

Qualcomm ranked fifth, a step up from its sixth ranking in 2019, with sales of US$17.9 billion, a rise of 31.5%. 

This was followed by Broadcom (US$15.7 billion), Texas Instrument (US$13.1 billion), MediaTek (US$11 billion), Kioxia (US$10.2 billion) and Nvidia (US$10.1 billion).

MediaTek, Kioxia and Nvidia joins the top ten ranking in 2020 for the first time. 

MediaTek saw sales increase 38.3%, allowing to to jump to eighth place from thirteenth place. Gartner said the company enjoyed increased application processor sales from jump in 5G smartphone sales.

Total semiconductor sales in 2020 was US$449.8 billion, a rise of 7.3%. Memory semiconductor accounted for 44% of the increase. NAND flash sales hit US$52.8 billion.
