L&F in talks with SK Innovation to supply cathode

L&F was in talks with SK Innovation to supply cathode, TheElec has learned.

The company is planning to supply high-nickel cathode (over 80% nickel) to the South Korean battery make. L&F will be supplying nickel, cobalt and manganese cathode.

L&F has already agreed prior to this deal to supply NCMA (with aluminum) to SK Innovation but this is not part of the talks.

The company is likely in talks to supply NCM811 cathode. The aim is to clinch the contract within the year.

The pair are in discussion over price and volume and there is a possibility that the talk my founder.

If the they sign a contract, it will be first for SK Innovation with L&F. The battery maker has been procuring most of its cathodes from EcoPro BM. 

Poso Chemical is also aiming to expanding its supply line.

EcoPro BM last year formed a joint venture with Samsung SDI called EcoPro EM.

The company’s holding company, EcoPro, was planning to take part in a battery recycling business with LG Energy Solution at the latter’s Poland factory.

A SK Innovation spokesperson said nothing was decided on the its deal with L&F.
