LG Uplus on Friday sent its request to the South Korean government to end its 2G services.

The telco said it will begin ending its 2G services in the first half of 2021.

The company will offer various handset and price plan programs for consumers to shift from 2G to 5G, it said.

When 2G service will actually end will be announced after discussions with the government, the telco said.

It will use resources it spent on 2G to improve 5G services and developing new augmented reality and virtual reality services.
