Samsung puts cost control first for Galaxy S21
Firm also reduces prices S21 Ultra boasts 120hz display with S Pen support
Samsung Electronics on Thursday unveiled its new Galaxy S21 smartphones with upped smartphone features.
Specs of the models matched earlier leaks while prices have substantially dropped for the Galaxy S20 series.
The new features also have upgraded features while at the same time show cost control measures by the South Korean tech giant.
Galaxy S21 series comes in S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra models. Each model has a screen size of 6.2. 6.7 and 6.8-inches.
The phones have 5nm processors with upped multi-tasking features. Depending on country, the models with either have the Exynos 2100 or Snapdragon 888 as the processor.
Exynos 2100, which will be used for models launching in South Korea, has 30% and 40% upped CPU and GPU performances, respectively. They also have 26TOPS neural processing units to improve artificial intelligence (AI) feature.
Camera is the most noticeable feature of the new phones. They can show 33 million pixels by capturing 8K videos. Director’s View feature allows simultaneously filming with the front and back cameras. The cameras can show various photos in different angles using the telephoto, wide and ultra wide cameras.
Pro Video Mode supports multi-mic recording. Galaxy Buds Pro earphones can be used as a mic when using S21 to film videos.
S21 ans S21 Plus supports 3x optical zoom as well as 30x digital zoom.
The pair has 12MP dual pixel wide angle camera, 64MP telephoto camera and 12MP ultra wide camera on their back. They have 10MP dual pixel front camera. They have Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays and support 120Hz refresh rate.
Galaxy S21 Ultra has QHD+ resolution and support up to 120Hz refresh rate. They can shift between 10Hz to 120Hz depending on contents being played. Brightness has increased 25% which allows for 50% increased contrast ratio. Peak brightness stands at 1,500 nit.
S21 Ultra also has a 108Mp camera. Pro Mode can save 12bit RAW files. The camera can film 60fps 4K videos. The back camera is comprised of 108MP wide camera, 12MP ultra wide camera and two 10MP dual pixel telephoto cameras. It supports 3x optical zoom and 10x dual optical folded zoom.
The phone also supports S Pen. Samsung will offer two phone covers that offers the stylus with them.
Galaxy S21 Ultra has a wider bandwidth and supports Wi-Fi 6E. It has dual Bluetooth antenna that allows it to be connected to various devices such as Galaxy Buds Pro stably.
Galaxy S21 series threw away many features to reduce costs. They don’t have microSD slots and charger and earphones are not included in the box.
The phones will launch globally on January 29/ Galaxy S21 will come in gray, white, violet and pink colors. S21 Plus will comes in black, silver, violet and pink colors. S21 Ultra will come in black and silver. Buying Ultra via Samsung.com will offer three limited edition colors __ titanium, navy and brown.
S21 and S21 Plus will come with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. They cost 999,900 won and 1.199 million, respectively, in Korea. S21 Ultra will come in 12GB RAM and 256GB internal storage as well as 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage. These will each cost 1.452 million won and 1.5994 million won.
