Samsung launches new consumer SATA SSD, 870 EVO

Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday that it will globally launch its consumer solid-state drive (SSD), 870 EVO.

The company said 870 EVO was aimed at PC users looking for an upgraded PC experience as well as contents creators and IT professionals.

The SSD use 128-layer V-NAND and the latest MKX controller. Using a large variable SLC buffer, the drive’s Intelligent TurboWrite technology helps maintain its peak performance levels, Samsung said.

The SSD have a sequential read speed of 560MB/s and a sequential write speed of 530MB/s, available with the SATA interface.

Random read speed is 98,000 IOPS and random write speed of 88,000 IOPS.

Samsung said 870 EVO has increased durability. The 4TB model offers 2,400 terabytes written and a 5 year warranty. The SSD comes in a 2.5-inch form factor.

With its power saving sleep mode, the 870 EVO is compatible with devices that support Window's Modern Standby function, offering added convenience to PC users, the South Korean tech giant said.

870 EVO will come in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB models. Sales will begin in South Korea and US first, followed by 40 countries sequentially, including at Germany and China.
