LG Electronics will invest 50 billion won at its Changwon facility to build a home appliance lab and transition the place to a smart factory, the company said on Wednesday.

LG executives and government officials of Changwon city and South Gyeongsang Province signed an agreement for the building of the lab.

The construction of the lab will begin next month. The lab will combine existing home appliance testing lab. It will take up a space of 18,800 meter-squares with seven stories.

The lab will be used to accelerate digital transformation of home appliance development, LG said.

Various sensors will collect data during testing which will allow all developers to analyze them through a remote monitoring system.

Various imitations of real-life scenarios will be built at the lab. Various tests to match standards of different countries and performance versification will be performed there.

LG said it hopes these activities reduce development time and increase quality of products.
