South Korean to spend 300 bil won for 10 years to foster system chip talent
Government also reviewing expanding practical training centers
The South Korean government and local companies together will spend 300 billion won for ten years to foster talents in system semiconductors, South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said on Thursday.
They will also create system semiconductor design majors in local universities.
By 2022, the ministry hopes to foster 3,638 core personnel for system semiconductors.
Afterwards, they aim is to foster 3,000 Master’s and Doctorate-level talents in the next ten years.
Local companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix will take part in the funding and recruitment of students.
The ministry said it hops these talents work in the field of future cars, energy, bio, power semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
The government also plans to strengthen practical training in system semiconductors. It is considering expanding semiconductor design education centers in nine universities, including KAIST.
