Samsung Electronics is planing to send technicians to its semiconductor plant in Austin, Texas which recently halted production to prepare for a quick restart when possible.

Samsung will send company staff and those of partners to the plant within the week. Dozens are planning to travel to Austin after being checked for COVID-19 and after preparations.

They will likely head straight towards the plan on arrival to Austin without quarantine.

Samsung’s chip plant in Austin halted production earlier this week as the local utility cut of the power supply to deal with the state-wide power shortage caused by the freezing weather there. It is the first time ever that the plant has halted production since it started operation back in 1988.

Austin has local technicians but the company is sending support as this wasn’t a regular situation, a Samsung spokesperson said.

It is unclear when the plant will resume operations.
