Hyundai Mobis has developed a rear lamp using flexible LED that can bend like thin-films.

Called HLED, it is 5.5mm thick and can be designed into various patterns, the company said.

The H in HLED stands for high performance, high definition and homogeneous, the firm said.

The lamp can be bent so that it can emit light in five different directions simultaneously, Hyundai Mobis said. They also emit light brightly and uniformly, the company said, which will increase visibility.

The company applied MicroLED chips that is low heat and power efficient that can control tail light and stop light at once.

HLED takes about 40% less space than predecessors due to them requiring less internal components, Hyundai Mobis said.

They took two years to develop and the company was manufacturing them to supply them to European automobile manufacturers.
