Analog Devices supplies BMS and audio ICs to Volvo XC40

Analog Devices and Volvo Cars said on Monday that Volvo XC40 Recharge pure electric SUV will feature Analog’s ICs that support battery management system (BMS) and Automotive Audio Bus (A2B).

The ICs will traveling distance per a single charge, the pair said.

It can be applied to hybrid and pure electric vehicles. It will also reduce total cost of ownership, they said.

The ICs meet the highest global security standards, and scale across multiple battery chemistries, including the zero-cobalt chemistries such as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) that support social and environmental sustainability, Analog and Volvo said.

Analog’s A2B and SHARC audio processor will allow the audio system to be connected into a low-latency bus architecture that guarantees high audio fidelity and saves up to 50kg of wire and insulation in the vehicle, they added.

“Electric vehicles are the future of automotive, and the market is growing significantly with up to 10 million full electric vehicles per year expected by 2025,” said Patrick Morgan, VP of automotive at Analog Devices, in a statement. The firm will continue to offer innovative and sustainable solutions going forward, he added.

Meanwhile, the Volvo XC40 P8 Recharge was a 2021 semi-finalist in the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards.
