Samsung Electro-Mechanics supplies 10x optical zoom module to S21 Ultra

Samsung Electro-Mechanics said on Monday that it was supplying its 10x optical zoom folded camera module to a global smartphone manufacturer.

The company didn’t name its customer but it is highly likely Samsung Electronics and the modules are being on the Galaxy S21 Ultra smartphone.

Optical zoom allows the camera to zoom into an object and take photos of them without compromising the resolution.

The focal length between the sensor and the lens determine how much the camera can zoom in.

Folded zoom cameras bends absorbed light to increase the focal length while keeping the distance between sensor and lens close so that the camera doesn’t stick out too much from the back.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics first launched a 5x optical zoom folded camera module that bend the absorbed light once.

Its latest module bends the light twice to increase the focal length even more to offer 10x optical zoom. The dual folded zoom camera module is also only 25% longer.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics used its own lens that is shorter and coated with special materials to minimize light loss.

The company also applied highly sensitive ball guided actuator for image stabilization.

It is supplying its modules to global smartphone manufacturers and automobile companies.
