LG Display CEO Jeong Ho-young, who was named the new chairman of Korea Display Industry Association (KDIA) earlier this month, vowed to build an ecosystem together with the government, industry and academia.

Jeong said he would focus on the association’s four main goals, which are: strengthening technologies of local material, component and equipment companies; recruiting talent and protecting core technologies; accelerate the realization of green displays; and expanding the horizon of the display industry to other sectors.

South Korea’s display industry has been the country’s backbone IT industry for the pats 20 years, the LG Display CEO said, and its future growth potential remained large.

Jeong will head KDIA for the next three years. He is the eighth chairman of the association and was named to the post last week.

Members of the association sent their written approval for the nomination due to restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic.

LG Display and Samsung Display take turns as the head of KDIA. The previous chairman was Lee Dong-hoon, ex-CEO of Samsung Display who started his term in February of 2018.
